A bill, the Money-Burge Act, was introduced to the House and the Senate during the week of
November 12, 2007 which will allow Ohio drivers license and State ID holders to provide secure emergency contact information. Governor
Strickland signed the bill into law on May 1, 2008! The BMV made the Next of Kin Registry available to Ohioans on September
8, 2008. People can provide their emergency contact information via the internet, Deputy Registrar locations or via
mail.
A change like this is only effective if everyone in the State of Ohio is aware of the new opportunity it
brings. This law means you can be immediately notified if someone you, or someone you love is in an accident and
can't speak for themselves.
The goal of ParentGrief is to provide education about this bill to schools,
colleges, community organizations and appropriate State of Ohio agencies. It is crucial that education about
this bill be provided quickly after the bill is passed and PRIOR to the link being made available by the BMV.
This quick start education means the citizens of Ohio will be able to sign up as soon as the link is opened.
There
are currently over ELEVEN MILLION licensed drivers in Ohio. Our goal is to have at least a half million people take
advantage of this program within the next 12 months.
